The Pure Air 8 Acute Mattress is a fully automatic, high-performance dynamic pressure-relieving system designed to support patients at very high risk of pressure injuries, including those with existing Stage I–IV wounds. Engineered for acute care environments, it combines intelligent alternating pressure therapy with responsive foam support to deliver clinically proven pressure redistribution, optimal patient comfort, and exceptional ease of use for caregivers.
This advanced system features eight horizontal air cells, each working in tandem through a dynamic 1-in-2 alternating cycle. The alternating sequence gently offloads tissue pressure in 10-minute cycles, reducing sustained pressure on vulnerable areas such as the sacrum, heels, and shoulders. These quiet, dynamic shifts in support mimic natural movement, helping stimulate blood flow and support tissue viability — critical for wound prevention and healing.
The mattress also includes a viscoelastic foam topper, which enhances immersion and envelopment of the body into the surface. This foam layer reduces shear and friction while maintaining a soft, comfortable feel — especially important for patients with frail or fragile skin. The combination of air cell movement and foam contouring offers a dual-action pressure care approach, delivering high levels of clinical protection.
The digital pump unit offers fully automated functionality, adjusting internal pressures based on patient weight and positioning with no need for manual input. This makes the Pure Air 8 ideal for fast-paced care environments where staff efficiency and therapeutic reliability are essential. The pump also includes an Auto-Firm mode to assist with patient transfers and nursing procedures, as well as a seat inflation mode for use when the backrest is elevated — helping to maintain pressure relief when patients are sitting up in bed.
Built-in visual and audible alarms alert carers to any issues such as low pressure or power failure, ensuring safety is prioritised at all times. The system also features an emergency CPR release valve for rapid deflation in urgent scenarios, and a transport mode to keep the mattress inflated during short patient transfers without power.
The mattress cover is made from a vapour-permeable, waterproof, 4-way stretch material that aids in moisture management and infection control. It is easy to clean, remove, and launder at high temperatures (up to 95°C), supporting hospital-grade hygiene standards.
Designed with durability and flexibility in mind, the Pure Air 8 Acute is suitable for both hospital beds and community care settings, and can accommodate a wide range of patient profiles. It supports safe patient weights of up to 200kg.
